Not As Good As Prior Versions But Still A Solid Golf Game Jun 22, 2010 The opinions on this game seem to be rather polarized, but the truth is in the middle. While this is still a very good golf game, it's not as good as previous iterations. Let's examine the pros and cons.
Pros:
Decent graphics
Many different types of gameplay
The new confidence meter is an improvement
Cons:
May lack compatibility with newer Op Systems
Took away a lot of features from prior versions, some of which were really fun
Lack of in depth and challenging courses
THE BUSHES!!
Let me begin by addressing each of the pros and cons. The graphics are decent overall, some facets are pretty good, such as the waves moving alone Pebble Beach, and some are meh, e.g. your created golfer may look very cartoon-ish. I do have to complain a bit, as they're not much improved over 2005 or 2006.
There are many types of gameplay, such as stroke play, Stableford, matches, Skins play and even online play. This is basically the most you can ask from an ordinary golf game, the only thing they forgot was putt-putt!
The new confidence meter is really very cool, as it eliminates pure reliance on the attribute improvements. Your confidence can go up substantially over the course of a full season or even multiple years. There are also occasionally added bonuses, for free, e.g. the game lets you suddenly take a lesson in putting or the short-game and your confidence in that department goes way up! However, if you're not doing well, you will only suffer a little bit for it. You can turn it around in a reasonable manner.
Now, the cons.
Several people have said this may not work with certain versions of Windows 7 and even Vista. I actually did get it to work, though with a good bit of freezing and crashing, in W7 Ultimate via compatibility mode.
I miss some of the removed features of prior versions, like getting to play against the all time greats, the ability to win some of the gear instead of only being able to purchase it, etc.
Yet the biggest issue is the lack of challenging courses. So many of them are not only easy, but they also feel exactly the same, with only the graphics seeming a bit different. The bit of good news is that you can easily find a ton of other courses to make the game interesting for free, and online.
One of my biggest complaints that has stayed around from past years is the difficulty of hitting the darned ball out of the simple bushes! I've used max power with heavy woods and yet the bushes seem to be made out of metal, as they simply repel the ball. I
Overall, it's a good game and a shame that EA gave up on PC gaming. It's just a sign of their greed and laziness, I guess. If you have $10 and need a good golf game for PC, I certainly endorse this version unless you have 2005 or 2006, in which case, you aren't in need of this version.

Highly Competent May 16, 2010 Video game golfing can be a lonely persuit. What this EA game does it does extremely well; the courses (14), the announcers (McCord & Flaherty with personality and flair), the game physics (true swing V (feels very natural), the wind, the gradations, the times of day, rough etc.), the avatar creation machine which is highly detailed, the modes pga tour, fedex tour, tiger challenge, custom games, practice, the graphics which with my set up are top notch. I have no complaints and have put many hours into mastering true swing novice winning 15 tournaments and placing 3rd at TPC Boston (The 3rd round killed me with strong winds and deep deep sandtraps). It's like anything else though, when you do it too much it gets old but I still find myself coming back to this game time and again. I've tried intermediate difficulty but didn't care for the hyper sensitivity of the mouse for putting and the fairways were much harder to hit; we're talkin a 20-30 stroke swing per tournament. Also once you've learned the shots you can skip confidence training and just play tournaments straight through. Going up in difficulty level even temporarily would cause precipitous drops in confidence when you start missing fairways and 3 putting greens on a regular basis. Another reason I lost in Boston is I had zero confidence built up and arrogantly skipped all the training that was available. What would I have done to make this game better? Well for one when you hit the back nine of your final round in tournament mode something should change in the announcing and the crowds should get way more intense(not the same o same o reactions and comments if you know what I mean.) Perhaps you should have the option of playing in an actual lead group in the back 9 . Anything in my view to take the inherent loneliness of a game like this to a more bearable level. But I reiterate,"What this game does it does extremely well and it's definitely worth picking up at these prices." As far as system requirements I have two dvd backups and the used copy I bought does not list system requirements anywhere on the package but the other dvd is in a compilation 2008 set with Madden Football ,FIVA Soccer, etc. and that one says the game will work with Vista,XP, or Windows 2000 ...1.3ghz cpu or greater, 8x dvd drive, 256mb ram, and a 64mb direct x 9 video card with NVIDIA GeForce 3 or better or an ati radeon 8500 or better. I have Vista 64 bit service pack 2, core 2 quad cpu 2.33 ghz times 4, 8gb of 800 mhz ddr2 ram, and an ati radeon 1gb 4670 pci-e ddr3 128 bit video card(70 -80 bucks 2009 card). The game runs super stable on this set up and looks fantastic at(I think I'm running the game at 1280 x 800 but haven't rechecked) resolution on a 23 inch LCD monitor through the HDMI connection. Other thoughts : Playing this video game has increased my television viewing of golf tournaments so it works as a promotional tool. Flaherty seems way more humble on television lately than he is in this game. You can create stunningly gorgeous female golfers with the avatar creation machine. I didn't get a decent sponsorship offer until I won 13 tournaments (addidas) but held out for Nike Golf. The sponsorship bonus is 25% of your earnings per tournament if you suit up in the sponsor's apparal. I've noticed some lag in the game lately and frequently play the game with all sound off to better concentrate on my shots. I'd pay hundreds possibly even thousands of dollars for a world class rpg based on this simulator. More golf courses would have been nice. The gallery could have been better done. I haven't played the Tiger Challenge or the fedex cup yet.
good game!!!! May 11, 2010 Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1849HFZAWBXHA
Good product May 09, 2010 The analog control was very hard for me to get used to. Seems to have needless cut scenes between each shot. Tiger reacts to his shot. Tiger gets ready for the next shot. Tiger approaches the ball. Just let me swing!!

Disappointed Mar 08, 2010 This is a neat game that doesn't work well on my computer. I don't know if it is my computer or the game itself. The program freezes up and has to be restarted. My computer meets all system requirements for this game. I am very disappointed.
