 Wonderful Game! Sep 03, 2010
I think that Capcom did an excellent job creating this game. The graphics are stellar and the storyline is great. It keeps your attention and you definitely have to use brainpower to figure out the BEST way to have Zack complete the task. This game was definitely slept on by A LOT of people but I hope that they create a sequel. This is one of those games that you can play over and over again.

I LOVE puzzle games. This summer I've played alot of them to pass time while I enjoy my summer break and used to play them alot when I was little. I found this game in Gamestop for about $12. I read the back of the box to see how much there is to do which looked to be alot and it sounded like fun. At first it was fun. It was original. I've never played a puzzle game like Zak and Wiki before.
The graphics are really neat. I love the cartoony feel of the game. It made me even more excited to get to the adventure stuff as I played the tutorial level at the start. It made me more and more anxious when I got my first item. On the first 3 levels I died a few times, but figured out what I had to do after awhile. It irritated me abit, but I figured its all in the challenge. Then comes the first boss level. OMG! It took me so long to figure it out. Theres actually more then one way to finish it, but I couldn't figure either out. The econd way which involves turning him into a item is hidden I had to consult a walkthrough after beating the level to figure it out. Then came levels after this. It was then I realized that this game is completely depended on trial and error. I learned that you can actually mess up so bad that the levels impossible unless you start over. In one of the ice levels theres this guy you have to turn into a totem. I didn't know this and ended up destroying the icicle that was to be used to trap him. I spent minutes on end trying to figure it out before giving up and eventually finding out whats to be done. Don't even get me started on the ice boss.
Platinun Tickets and dolls will only get you so far in the game. For one thier extremely expensive so you might as well go on the internet and find out what to do. I really see no purpose in the level rewind option with the dolls. From my experience you still end up losing all your money, so you might as well die and start over. Plus hints only get you so far. Sometimes they just state stuff you've already figured out which renders them useless more often than once. It shows no mercy! In missions it doesn't give you much room to mess up. If I was given maybe more than one consecutive chance I might figure out how to beat the level without dying so much, but I'm so busy replaying the level over and over that I have to think fast expecially on timed chalenges on what I'm supposed to do while the chance is still open. It gets irksome fast. For later levels I actually had to consult walkthroughs to get pass which I never had to do before with puzzle games. Alot of the deaths just happen unexpectently. You just won't see them coming unless you're PCP or have the 6th sense.
Zak and Wiki is a hard game to recommend. On one hand I did get some fun out of the game early on and the story seems interesting, but its intense difficulty and punishments for messing up will turn many peaple off (this is why I give it 3 stars). This wouldn't be bad if it was intended for an older audience, but this is ment for kids. I don't see too many kids having the patients to go through the trial and errors this game inflicts. I, an 18 year, could barely handle the frustrating points without turning the game off and coming back only to finally beat it than get stuck again(I'm on the lava levels BTW I can't imagine what later ones are like). Now I'm stuck again and despite this I still keep playing and don't know why. I guess I'm just tenacious.
If you're a fan of puzzle games I recommend renting it first. If you like it enough then give it a buy.
Extra Note: Today I'm editing this review because theres one more important point I must add that I forgot yesterday. Throughout certain levels theres this minigame. You must find this very small sparkling white thing sticking out the ground and ring your bell near it. Its a rythm minigame involving using the wii mote as a bell. This thing is IMPOSIBLE! I only managed to pas two of them out of shear luck, but only after repeating it over and over. I tried moving and holding the wii mote in different ways and ringing with different speeds and timing and still it seems like it reads movement at random. Forget about the longer notes. I try ringing it the way the game says but its still luck. If anyone knows how to properly beat this minigame please tell me.

I bought this game based on the reviews here. I rated this game based on my son's opinion since he is the one I bought it for. Well, my son LOVES this game. It is the first game that he can actually handle (besides a Diego one we rented a couple of years ago that he completed in 2 hours), and, although it is "timed", every time you interact with something, time stops to give you time to do it. It also has a LOT of talking that slows down the game for me, but, again, my son just loves it. I think the talking helps slow down the pace of the game for him so he doesn't feel he is under pressure. We have a LOT of other Wii games (Star Wars, Legos, Band Hero, Smash bros brawl, etc) but they are generally too hard for him to play well--to think and act at the same time and do several actions at once.
I like this game because it makes him think and put puzzles together--First, do this, then this, then this to get this. And the pattern changes so that he has to try new things to get passed the bad guys. It is not dark or scary. It has a lot of ingame help. Each section is short so he doesn't get tired of attempting it. Graphics are cute and silly, though the skull and crossbones when you die can be a little much for the more sensitive children. It just really fits into a niche that doesn't have a lot of games out there...6-10 year olds wthout being violent or ominous (unlike Mushroom men:Spore wars...too dark for him--it is not that dark, but to a 7 year old...). I know because I have been looking.

I just bought this game used for a quarter of the price. I had seen it on many top 25 wii game lists. Except for the beginning sequence (wich is unbearably long and painfully japanese in sounds and story telling). The puzzles are creative, graphics are great. sound is ok. Definately a must own, for young and old alike. I think even my wife will like this one. Buy it used, great for that price.
Favorite Wii Title May 04, 2010
This has quickly become my favorite Wii title. It's more of a casual game as compared to titles like Okami and The Conduit, but it isn't a kid's game at all - it was definitely designed with the core gamer in mind. I liked the classic point and click style, and the logic problem aspect of the game was difficult without being so impossible that I wanted to give up. I really wish that the game had sold better, because Capcom could definitely build on the first Zack and Wiki game to do sequels, but I have little hope that we'll see more. In any case, this is a top Wii game, and if you don't own it yet, you should!
